Insights from Tracking 200 Apps Across 50 Apple Tablets in Testing Review

Utilizing Flurry Analytics, the business identified about 50 devices that fit the characteristics of Apple’s rumored tablet device. Since Flurry could reliably”place” these devices perilously on Apple’s Cupertino campus, we have a reasonable degree of confidence that we are celebrating a set of pre-release pills in testing. Testing of this device increased dramatically in January, together with observed signs of existence as early as October of last year. Apple seems to be going through its cycle of testing and polish, which is requested from any hardware or software company because it nears launch.
Apple is expected to announce that the yet-to-be named hardware on Wednesday, January 27 at San Francisco. There was wide speculation about the performance of the tablet, and what kinds of content and media partners the new apparatus will feature. The choice of operating systems is particularly important for application developers since if the tablet runs on the exact same or upgraded operating system as the iPhone, subsequently present applications running on the iPhone will also run on the tablet computer.
On those devices, Flurry observed approximately 200 distinct applications being used by testers. Studying category tendencies provides insight to the type of consumer Apple is targeting and how it expects the device to be used. Below is a graph that shows the number of programs in use by category across test devices.

For Play not Function
Historically, tablets have been considered substitutes for anything where workers use clipboards, note pads or day runners. In more industrial configurations, they could be used for inventory management, taking buy orders or information entry. But, there was a surprising dearth of software that support these use cases. Instead, the most significant category was games. With a bigger screen, more memory, multi-touch and multi-tasking anticipated, games will play better than ever on Apple handheld devices.

The tablet device clearly targets consumers. The mix of software found comprises mainly of media and entertainment consumption as opposed to enterprise, computing and productivity. Specifically, popular tested programs include news, games, entertainment and lifestyle. Specifically, there was a powerful tendency toward news, books and other kinds of daily media consumption, such as streaming music and radio. In fact, the most commonly downloaded of any single specific application was a new app. In its October Pulse file, Flurry researched iPhone as an e-reader and the danger that poses to Amazon Kindle. With rumors of large newspaper and book publisher deals, together with its reading-friendly form factor, we assume that the new Apple tablet computer will concentrate heavily on daily media consumption. Finally, across all applications detected, there was a powerful theme of sharing and/or social interaction involving social websites, social networking, photo sharing and utilities such as file transfer programs.
